  1. Kia ora Jake,

It is so great to see that you are posting activities for the Summer Learning Journey programme again this year. Welcome back!! We're all really looking forward to reading your work and to blogging with you this summer.

I am also really looking forward to learning from you. I didn't realise that Gisborne was the first city in the world to see the sunrise. That is an amazing fact! I don't think that I have ever been able to sit and watch the sun rise over the horizon. Have you? I hope that you're enjoying some nice, sunny days down in the south island. I live in Auckland and we're having a beautiful week of sunny weather. What is the weather like where you live this week?

I hope that you will continue to blog with us throughout the sunny summer holidays. We can't wait to see what you will share with us (and teach us) next!

    All the best,
Rachel (and the SLJ blogging team)

    2. Thanks Rachel, our weather has been better than usual this week as we have only had grey skies and not rain in Hokitika. We can't watch the sun rise until it comes over our mountains so the sky is already light when the sun comes into view.

      thanks
      Jake

    3. Hi Jake,

Thanks for writing back to me so quickly! I really appreciate it. I have had the good fortune of coming down to Hokitika to visit a couple of times this year and I just love the area. It is so beautiful!

Keep up the great work with your blogging this summer :)

      Cheers, Rachel

  2. Hi Jake

Welcome to the Summer Learning Journey for the 2108 summer. My name is Allie and I am the cluster manager and will be commenting with you over the summer.

Great work with your first post.

We live live in such a cool place. There are so many amazing things to do in New Zealand. Isn't it crazy that there are so many cars in New Zealand. Lucky that we don't live in a big city! Imagine how long it would take to get to school in all that traffic!

We may not see the sunrise here, but our sunsets are amazing! Do you go to the beach in Hokitika to watch the sunset?
It's a great spot on a good night!

Well done Jake, you have made a great start. Keep up the good work! Looking forward to reading your posts over the summer.

    Until next time

    Allie :)

    1. Hello Allie, I've been to see the sunset many times. My dad loves when we go to the beach and watch for the green flash, have you seen it?
